Sedation Learning Center

Free Laughing Gas with Treatment

A significant number of Americans do not visit the dentist for regular checkups because they are too fearful or suffer from dental anxiety. Our patient’s comfort and health is our top priority so we offer sedation options to help ease any anxiety or fear our patients may experience during treatment. Sedation is a great option for fearful adults, children and patients with special needs.

If you tend to postpone dental care because of fear or anxiety, worry no more! We value our patient’s comfort as well as their pocketbook, which is why we are offering free nitrous oxide with treatment.

Below we have listed some common questions many of our first-time patients may have regarding sedation dentistry.

We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and IV (intravenous) sedation. Nitrous oxide is great for patients with mild to moderate anxiety. IV sedation is for patients with more severe anxiety or fear, for patients with special needs, or for those who are completing a lot of dental work in one visit.

Otherwise known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is sweet-smelling, non-irritating, colorless gas administered through a facial mask during the time of your procedure. It provides a deep sense of relaxation. When your procedure is complete, the mask will be removed and the effects should wear off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself home.

Intravenous sedation involves the use of sedative agents administered by way of an IV line directly into the patient’s circulation. This allows the gradual dosing of appropriate medications until the patient is safely and comfortably sedated. IV sedation is sometimes referred to as “sleep” dentistry, because patients who undergo IV sedation fall into a deep state of relaxation, and may have only partial memory from the procedure, or none at all. IV sedation is the deepest form of sedation.

IV sedation is very safe and administered by a professional who will closely monitor your vital signs. After your procedure, you will need a friend or family member to drive you home.

Most patients wake up feeling relaxed with almost no memory of their treatment. In most cases, you will not feel anything. You will experience very little discomfort.

No, you will be conscious and responsive, just in a deep state of relaxation.
